David Sommer was born in Brownsville on November 30, 1923, to Oscar and Laura Sommer.
He entered WWII in the Army Air Corp. David was chosen to train in electronics and the
beginning of computer science. David Sommer was in the 9 th Army Air Corp and assigned to
work in England with the team using the world’s largest computer. It took up an entire building
and was used to predict weather patterns for bombing missions.
David returned to Brownsville to work in the family furniture business. He died on November 7,
1989. David Sommer is buried near the graves of his parents in the Hebrew Cemetery.
