Eli was the brother of Morris Edelstein. He was born in Lithuania. In 1928, Eli moved to Mercedes, Texas, to open a furniture store which he owned until his retirement. When WWII started, he decided to join the service despite his age. He was forty-four years old.
Eli never married and he had no children.

He was my grandfather’s brother who lived in Mercedes. He had a small furniture store. I remember he had red hair and would pop in from time to time to visit us in Brownsville. One such time was at Passover when we were opening the door for Elijah and there he stood! There on out, every Passover we remembered him!
