Sidney Sommer was born May 23, 1925, in Brownsville to Oscar and Laura Sommer.
On July 13, 1943, Sidney joined the Navy during WWII. He and his two brothers were in the
war as well as two brothers-in-law.
After training, Sidney became a pharmacist mate in the Navy. He was discharged on
April 6, 1946.
He returned to Brownsville to help in the family furniture business. Later he moved to
San Antonio. On May 18, 1984, he married Guadalupe Castillo. They had no children.
Sidney Sommer died on May 8, 1985. He is buried near his parents and other family
members in the Hebrew Cemetery.
